Hotels and BeachesNot any zone represents Costa Rica's coastal richness better than the North Zone of Guanacaste. The hottest part of the country, Guanacaste is a known destination among sun worshippers of all kinds. From the Gulf of Papagayo to the south of that peninsula, you can find more accessible beaches, many of them slope down into the quiet waters of Culebra Bay. Its sands run the gamut, from pristine coves set deep within the wilderness of a reserve, to modern resorts complete with four-star hotels, gourmet restaurants and charter boats equipped for fishing and other aquatic activities. Guanacaste's beaches, disconnected by rocky bluffs and backed by patches of tropical dry forest, evoke what southern California's coastline might have looked like a century ago.
